Hindi siya takot sa Tsina! Duterte just avoiding WPS collision turning into an int’l crisis

Malacanang believes a formal investigation into the collision of a Chinese vessel and Filipino fishing boat in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) is necessary to prevent such from turning into a global crisis.
“Tama si Presidente. The President is a very cautious person. As a lawyer, he is trained to listen to all sides, especially because there are adversarial claims. Iba iba ang version eh. Kaya lalong naging maingat siya kasi he does not want this blown into an international crisis,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo on Tuesday.
In a speech during the 121st anniversary celebration of the Philippine Navy, President Rodrigo Duterte dismissed the sinking of a Philippine fishing boat in disputed WPS as a “little maritime accident.” He also stood firm that the Philippines could not afford to wage war with China, citing its military capabilities.
Despite his soft stance on the ramming of a Filipino fishing vessel by a Chinese ship, Panelo clarified that Duterte is not afraid of China.
“Matagal din nabago yung relasyon from the time yung previous administration na masama ang relasyon, and na-nurture nga ito, naayos ni Presidente, nagkaroon ng warm relation, nagkaroon ng mga trade relations, so inaalagan niya ito,” the official said.
“At the same time, inaala niya rin yung kapakanan ng 320,000 na overseas workers natin sa China, at the same time, iniisip niya rin ang kapakanan ng mga Pilipino na nagfi-fish sa Recto bank. Yan ang binabalanse ni Presidente,” he added.
