The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will be shelling out P15 million to repatriate Filipinos from Lebanon following the deadly blast in beirut that killed four Philippine citizens.

DFA Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. said Saturday (August 8) that the amount will be spent on a chartered Qatar Airways flight.

“DFA is paying P15,000,000 from its funds for a chartered Qatar Air flight to repatriate from Beirut. PE Beirut is negotiating it and disbursing the amount. August 16 is arrival. I wish it could have been a PAL flight but I am told they are unavailable. Other flights scheduled,” he tweeted.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola said around 400 Filipinos are expected to avail themselves of repatriation.

Around 33,000 Filipinos are working in Lebanon, mostly as domestic helpers.

According to the DFA’s latest information, 42 Filipinos were injured in the explosion. Two of them are in a critical condition at a hospital.
