Honasan accepts DICT post ‘for better PH’
Administration Senator Gringo Honasan has accepted President Rodrigo Duterte’s offer to head the Department of Information Communication and Technology, replacing acting Secretary Eliseo Rio.
“For a better Philippines, a better government, for the Filipino people, and for a better future for our most precious children, I have decided to accept the offer of the President to help lead the DICT,” he said in a brief statement.
Honasan would be deemed resigned from the Senate once confirmed by the Commission on Appointment. “Upon appointment, confirmation by the CA, and oathtaking, which triggers my automatic resignation from the Senate,” he said.
He is widely expected to breeze through the confirmation hearing as a matter of courtesy, being a member of Congress, according to Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Honasan, whose Senate term would have lapsed next year and who is not eligible for reelection, is the second senator to join Duterte’s Cabinet, following former Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
