Senator Gregorio Honasan urged the public to display the Filipino spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation in the wake of reports on the number of displaced residents due to typhoon Nina.
“With our hard-hit typhoon victims in the Bicol peninsula, now is the time to actualize the true spirit of Christmas and Filipino bayanihan to restore disrupted lives and promote national rebuilding from barangay level up,” he said.
The senator, who hails from Sorsogon province made the call as he expressed concern to those affected by the said typhoon.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), a total of 77,560 families or nearly 400,000 people were in at least 300 evacuation centers in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Eastern Visayas.
Reports also said that a total of 17,277 families or 72,869 people were evacuated at the height of the typhoon.
