Hontiveros defends SONA outfit: Stop telling women how to dress
Senator Risa Hontiveros is looking stunning and elegant in her barong-inspired dress for the opening of the 18th Congress on Monday.
But one Twitter user called her attention for her supposed inappropriate wardrobe when the senators had their group photo at the Senate.
“Dear Risa Hontiveros, Dress appropriately. There’s a place and time to dress like a thirsty slut and a senator of the republic. #CoverUp #SONA2019,” netizen Carlo Malonzo tweeted, commenting on the senators’ photo where Hontiveros sat with crossed legs.
Hontiveros however hit back and declared no one has the right to dictate what another person must wear.
“Unang araw pa lang ng 18th Congress may ganito na agad. Stop telling women how to dress,” Hontiveros wrote on Facebook.

THE DRESS THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND TWEETS. Didn’t have time to post this yesterday. The dress I wore at #SONA2019 is contemporary piña barong with sleeves patterned after the baro't saya. Designed by Joel Acebuche, using textile woven in Kalibo and embroidered in Lumban. I used my old pair of shoes made in Marikina – matibay!
