The coronavirus pandemic has caused concern and anxiety among people. But there are some tips to help with one’s wellbeing while dealing with the latest health emergency.

Senator Risa Hontiveros has urged the public to look after their mental health to ease the distress experienced in relation to the coronavirus outbreak.

The senator’s tips included avoiding social media for a few hours, reconnecting with friends online, eating and sleeping well and helping others.

“Today, mga mahal,I’d like to ask you to check in on your mental health. Kasama ito sa mga pagsubok na dala ng COVID-19 crisis. But today, here are some tips I’d like to share w/ you,” she said.

1. DO A SCREEN LOCKDOWN.

Hontiveros said people should stay away from any electronic device and social media for one to two hours a day. ” This is to lessen your anxiety & to process news & the overload of information we receive every hour. While you’re at it,kumustahin mo na rin ang sarili mo,” she said.

2. RE-CONNECT W/ A FRIEND OR LOVED ONE.

Hontiveros urged people to reach out to loved ones and friends whom they haven’t talked to in a while. “Pwedeng mag-Skype, Messenger o kahit through text. Kumustahin sila. You’ll feel better knowing you’re not alone, I promise,” she said.

3. EAT, SLEEP WELL. DRINK WATER.

Hontiveros said mental health is connected with physical health. “‘Wag magpabiktima sa binge-eating especially kung walang ginagawa o nanonood ng mga palabas. If you are able, exercise at home,” she said.

4. HELP OUT & DONATE.

Hontiveros said if they are able, people can make donations or help others in need.
“Maraming mga nangangailangan ngayon ng donations for food, PPEs para sa ating mga frontliners, atbp. Bahagi ka ng isang komunidad, huwag kakalimutan. Kung gusto mong tumulong sa ating mga frontline health workers,” she said.

She also released contact numbers in case a person needs someone to talk to.
These are: NCMH (09178998727 or (02)79898727) & Hopeline (Globe – 09175584673; Smart – 09188734673; PLDT (02)88044673)
