House will properly scrutinize 2020 budget — Romualdez
House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez assured the public on Tuesday night that the House of Representatives will do its job of properly scrutinizing the P4.1 trillion proposed budget for 2020 in spite of its resolve to pass the budget by October.
The national budget “will go through the normal and very transparent process of deliberations to fully discuss its merits and main objective to serve the people,” he told a gathering of the Visayan bloc at Edsa Shangri La Hotel.
“We are going to scrutinize the national budget and do our jobs properly,” said Romualdez.
He added that the House committee on appropriations chaired by Davao City Rep. Isidro Ungab will immediately deliberate the nitty-gritty of the 2020 national budget, which reached the four trillion-peso mark for the first time.
He said it is expected that “social and economic services will get the biggest chunk of the national budget where lawmakers will guarantee that effective utilization and honest spending of the national budget will result to real benefits of the people.”
The economic managers are expected to submit the National Expenditure Program this month.
