Hubris o lasing lang kayo? Alunan hits Aquino, Gazmin for Trillanes’ flawed amnesty
Former Interior and Local Government Secretary Rafael Alunan III is wondering about the state of mind of then President Aquino and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin when they decided to let Senator Antonio Trillanes IV free via amnesty.
Alunan, sharing copies of the amnesty paper signed by Gazmin on Facebook, asked if the flawed amnesty was a product of a drunken stupor or just plain hubris.
“Smoking gun. SND Gazmin usurped the President’s sole right and responsibility to grant amnesty. Process was flawed,” he said.
“Were Gazmin and PNoy in a drunken stupor while stumbling from one mistake to the next? Hubris, perhaps, that they were above the law and to hell with mistakes and consequences?” he asked.
Apart from the paper not being signed by Aquino, Alunan said Trillanes also failed to meet the amnesty requirements including admission of guilt for his crimes.
“Add to that the info that Trillanes, in January 2011, refused to admit to having staged a mutiny or an attempted coup,” he said.
“Yet, the amnesty was issued in November 2010, two months BEFORE Trillanes applied for amnesty without admitting his guilt. Santa banana!” he said.
