CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) senatorial bet and Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) guest candidate Sen. Sonny Angara favors the revocation of scholarships of militant students committing vandalism during public protests.
In an ambush interview during Hugpong’s proclamation rally in Cabanatuan City on Wednesday, Angara stressed that militant students who are defacing public facilities and infrastructure during rallies are not exercising their right to freedom speech but instead commiting a crime.
“Iba na yon. Hindi na freedom of expression yun eh. Krimen na yun eh, kapag nag-vandalize ka. That’s already a crime. Iba yung may sasabihin ka, iba yun naninira ka ng property. That’s a crime,” said Angara.
Angara said scholarship grants of those students from state universities and colleges who are caught desecrating or wrecking government facilities should be canceled.
Meanwhile, Angara took a swipe at he proposal of National Youth Commission (NYC) chair Ronald Cardema to revoke the scholarship grants of those state scholars who are participating peacefully during a protest.
“Nasa Konstitusyon ang freedom of expression,” said Angara.
