Senator Imee Marcos urged President Rodrigo Duterte Monday (March 30) to go all out in providing assistance to Filipinos affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak since he now has additional powers from Congress to deal with the crisis.

In a Facebook video titled, “Vlog 12 2020: Working Quarantine #2,” Marcos said the government should fast-track granting assistance to needy Filipinos. She made the appeal a week after Congress signed into law the “Bayanihan We Heal As One” Act.

“Kung may pera man, ilabas na. Itodo na ang tulong sa tao,” Marcos said. “Huwag na muna ‘yang emergency, emergency na ‘yan, emergency powers. Baka nasisindak pa ‘yung mga tao.”

The senator said Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 outbreak have yet to receive assistance from the national government halfway through the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Marcos also called on the administration to help mayors across the country since their resources are now stretched dealing with the outbreak.

The “Bayanihan We Heal As One” Act authorizes Duterte to realign some P275 billion in public funds to deal with the COVID-19 crisis.
