The looming impeachment trials of at least two ranking government officials could cripple the Senate, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Tuesday.
Lacson said that when the Senate convened into an impeachment court for the late Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012, it could not get much legislative work done.
“First with (the impeachment of Comelec chairman Andres) Bautista, crippled na ang Senate. Wala na kaming magagawa. Kasi naroon ako sa trial kay the late CJ Corona. Wala nang magagawang iba,” he said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.
He said that if the House of Representatives transmits the articles of impeachment against Bautista to the Senate, senators will have to form an impeachment court.
This is not yet counting the possible impeachment of other ranking officials such as Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Morales, he added.
“Pag nakagsabay-sabay sa Senate wala nang mapasang bills. Pati budget, tax reform package matatamaan,” he said.
