VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has nothing but respect for her father President Rodrigo Duterte after he dropped former Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada from the senatorial ticke of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) party.
In an ambush interview in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Mayor Sara said it was the President’s prerogative to choose his slate especially since he also serve as chairman of the party.
“Si Presidente Duterte is under PDP plus of course yung mga personal choices niya and then Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) is a different entity altogether with PDP,” Mayor Duterte said.
Last Thursday, President Duterte admitted that he just felt obliged to raise Estrada’s hand during an event in Legazpi City, Albay since the former lawmaker was already there.
For her part, Mayor Sara stressed that his dad has the right to pick his own senatorial bets, adding that Estrada will remain part in the senate slate of her own political entity, the HNP.
“Personal choices niya as a candidates for senators plus of course yung sa partido nila sa PDP,” the Davao City Mayor said.
“Ang Hugpong ay meron ding different set of senators and magkaiba naman kami ni President Duterte na individuals so what his opinion or his thoughts are not necessarily the same as my opinion and my thoughts,” the Presidential daughter added.
On Monday Estrada joined Mayor Sara during Hugpong’s proclamation rallies in Vigan and Laoag.
The former senator is also expected to join HNP’s campaign event in Santiago City, Isabela this coming Tuesday, February 19.
