Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has thrown her all out support for the franchise renewal of embattled broadcast giant ABS-CBN.
Mayor Duterte made the remarks less than 24 hours after his father, President Rodrigo Duterte accepted the public apology issued by the Lopez-owned media conglomerate for airing a smear ad against him funded by defeated vice-presidential candidate and former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
“Davao City fully supports ABS-CBN sa kanilang pagpapa-renew ng kanilang franchise,” said Mayor Duterte in an ambush interview with the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group in Sulu on Thursday.
“Of course, malaki din ang suporta ng ABS-CBN sa Davao City at the buong bansa,” she added.
The President’s daughter said she is hopeful that issues surrounding the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya network will be resolved “in a very positive way.”
ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo Lopez Katigbak during Monday’s Senate hearing formally apologized to the elder Duterte for offending him after the network aired the Trillanes-funded commercial.
Duterte in response said the network giant should just donate the remaining P2.6-million the network owes him for its failure to air his political advertisements during the 2016 election.
Although the President already accepted Katigbak’s apology, he still mum whether or not he will signed the consolidated franchise renewal bill if ever it hurdles congressional approval, saying he will “cross the bridge” if is reaches his table for signature.
