Senator Bong Go called out three government agencies Thursday (June 4) over their failure to release the benefits due to healthcare workers affected by COVID-19, two months after the passage of the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act.
Government officials from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently admitted to senators that no healthcare worker who fell ill or died due to COVID-19 received the compensation due to them under the law.
They attributed the failure to release the benefits to the absence of implementing rules and regulations for Republic Act 11469.
The Bayanihan Law provides for the grant of up to P100,000 for healthcare workers who will have serious complications due to COVID-19, and P1 million for the family of a healthcare worker who died due to the virus in the line of duty.
Bakit matagal?! O sadya bang pinapatagal? Wala bang gumagalaw sa inyo?!” Go said in a privilege speech.
Go slammed DBM, DOH and DOLE for their conflicting statements over the guidelines needed to release the benefits to healthcare workers.
Go said government officials who drag their feet on the compensation due to healthcare workers are free to resign.
