There are now 117 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who have contracted the deadly 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) in the facilities of the Bureau of Correction (BuCor), said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete on Friday (May 15).

There are now 117 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who have contracted the deadly 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) in the facilities of the Bureau of Correction (BuCor), said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete on Friday (May 15).

As of May 14, Perete learned from the BuCor that there are “117 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among the PDL population in BuCor.”

“Forty from the National Bilibid Prison; 77 from CIW (Correctional Institute for Women),” the Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesman said.

Among them, Perete said four have already died.

On the other hand, he said nine have already recovered including eight female PDLs of the CIW in Mandaluyonng City.
