Ipagdasal na lang! Ateneo de Manila president goes soft on viral bullying video
The Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) is treating the viral video of a bullying incident with kid gloves, with its president merely requesting for prayers for the students involved.
Fr. Jett Villarin on Thursday (December 20) said the school is investigating the incident, which involved two students of the ADMU Junior High School.
“The Junior High School Committee on Discipline has been meeting since the incident was reported and has been conducting all inquiries we need to come up with a decision on the matter,” he said in a statement.
While Villarin said ADMU “does not condone such behavior,” the word “bullying” never appeared in his statement about the incident. He even said it was timely to pray for peace this Christmas.
“I request as well your prayers for our students and their families and all those affected by such terrible incidents of violence,” he said. “Let us pray and live for peace during this season that marks the birth of the Prince of Peace.”
The viral video showed the bully beating up his victim inside the restroom of the ADMU Junior High School. The victim ended up with a bloodied nose as a result of being punched and kicked by the bully, who appeared to have some knowledge in martial arts.
To show that the school “is not silent on its stand on violence,” Villarin said ADMU “will not hesitate to impose the penalty of dismissal or even expulsion in cases of grave misconduct.”
