Itapon sa Bilibid! Netizens hail Imelda Marcos conviction

Former First Lady Imelda Marcos nearly broke the internet after she was found guilty of seven counts of graft and ordered arrested.

Several netizens have cheered the Sandiganbayan’s decision sentencing Marcos to imprisonment of 42 years to 77 years. Other Twitter users were adamant that the widow of dictator Ferdinand Marcos should not be given leniency by the government.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Imelda Marcos! Welcome to Bilibid, the happiest place in Muntinlupa,” @MalacananEvents tweeted.

“Apparently Imelda Marcos will get a VIP room for a prison cell. Weird how even in the prison system, we still treat people unfairly. While ordinary people are being incarcerated for struggling to survive, high-profile criminals like Imelda Marcos get to have special treatment,” @markyscrackling said.

@RedTani commented: “Pay attention to how Duterte and his supporters react to the news about Imelda Marcos. Today we will see clearly whether they can prioritize hatred of corruption over partisan politics.”

“Will Imelda Marcos feign illness to secure hospital arrest and avoid jail time?? Abangan,” @corrality wrote.

“20 years in the making!!!!! I am happy with the Sandiganbayan verdict on Imelda Marcos but knowing this government, I am holding my breath,” @patriciacoreen tweeted.
