Malacañang said it is up to President Rodrigo Duterte whether to agree to be vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Chinese company Sinopharm.

“It’s up to the President pa rin kung magpapaturok po siya ng Sinovac, although he has expressed his preference for Sinopharm,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

Roque in his virtual presser Thursday announced that the donated 600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines will arrive in the Philippines on Sunday.

The Food and Drug Administration earlier granted emergency use authorization for the Covid-19 vaccine of China’s Sinovac Biotech, but did not recommend its use among health workers and senior citizens.

Duterte, who is turning 76 on March 28, belongs to the elderly group, a priority group for COVID vaccination.
