JBC extends deadline for accepting Chief Justice applicants
It seems there are only a few takers for the position of chief justice.
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) announced on Friday (Oct. 12) to extend its Oct. 15 deadline for interested applicants to submit their applications for the vacant post of chief justice.
“The Judicial and Bar Council today extended to October 26 the deadline for the application period for the position of Supreme Court Chief Justice vice Teresita J. Leonardo-De Castro who compulsory retired last October 10,” the JBC said in a statement.
The JBC said that five senior SC magistrates have been automatically nominated for the post.
They are Senior Associate Justices Antonio Carpio, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, and Mariano del Castillo.
So far, Peralta and Bersamin have accepted their nominations.
While, del Castillo declined on Friday his automatic nomination.
