The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will pick at least three for the shortlist of candidates vying for the seat of chief justice, outgoing Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin said on Thursday (Oct. 10).

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will pick at least three for the shortlist of candidates vying for the seat of chief justice, outgoing Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin said on Thursday (Oct. 10).

“Apat sila na candidates so JBC will vote at least three under the Constitution,” said Bersamin who chairs the JBC which is tasked under the Constitution to screen applicants in the judiciary.

Bersamin revealed the JBC will be holding its deliberations this Friday (Oct. 11) to determine who will be in placed in the shortlist.

The shortlist will be sent to Malacanang for President Rodrigo Duterte to pick the next chief justice.

“ I would say choose the one who you believe has more EQ (emotional intelligence) than the others,” Bersamin advised Duterte.

“This is also a position of leadership among equals primus inter pares. So it’s very important here,” explained Bersamin who will retire this October 18.

“Those who are vying for the post are Supreme Court (SC) Justices Diosdado Peralta, Estela Perlas-Bernabe, Andres Reyes Jr. And Jose Reyes Jr.
