An adviser of President Duterte has offered a public apology to doctors and expressed his gratitude and admiration for their service to the nation amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion made the gesture following his “complain nang complain” remark about some doctors opposed to the use of rapid test kits.
“I apologize if my words were perceived to criticize doctors in general,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter on May 20.
“I would like to put on record that i have nothing but the utmost gratitude and admiration for the doctors and frontliners who continue to do a great service for our country during this crisis,” he said.
Concepcion said a select group of doctors have opposed efforts to test employees using a combination of antibody rapid test and RT-PCR test. The businessman is the brains behind Project ARK (antibody rapid test kits) that sourced over a million test kits to test workers and other members of the community as the businesses resumed partial operations in quarantine areas.
Concepcion said it was important to work together to save “the physical and financial health of our nation.” “We are at war with a common enemy and need to use everything in our arsenal to fight it. My goal in setting up Project Ark is to make all tests affordable and accessible to every Filipino,” he said.
He said Project Ark, with the help of donors and medical volunteers, has brought down the cost of rapid test kits by more than 50 percent, and hopes to do the same for RT-PCR testing.
“This will greatly help augment government efforts in increasing testing capacity of our country. This is the only way to fight an invisible enemy and stop the spread of the virus,” he said.
