JS proms cancelled due to virus
SAN MARIANO, Isabela — The junior-senior promenade has been postponed in secondary schools here as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
Councilor Girlie Go-Warren, chairperson of the education committee, said they asked for the postponement of JS promenade in schools after receiving a memoranda from the health and education departments to shun large gatherings and out-of-campus activities so that the public, particularly students, can avoid possibly contracting the virus.
School officials had imposed the indefinite postponement but some students who already bought or rented their gown, coat, and tie, had voiced complaints.
The Tumauini town’s Mangi Festival and some anniversary events, originally set on February 21 to 25, were “indefinitely postponed” to lessen the possibility of spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Mayor Arnold Bautista said he and the committee heads had decided on the postponement after meeting local officials, village heads, religious leaders and civil society group members.
“This difficult decision had to be made in the interest of public health and safety and as a precautionary measure to address the ongoing threat,” Bautista said. (PNA)
