JUDGES from the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division have moved to inhibit themselves in the plunder and graft trial of “pork barrel” scam respondent, Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
The magistrates requested the inhibition before Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang as they
could not seem to agree on whether or not to grant the bail petition of the detained senator, a Politiko source in Sandiganbayan said.
The source, who requested aninomity for lack of authority in publicly speaking about the cases, believed that the move was part of the “grand design” to delay the proceedings against Estrada.
Reports said that there’s a “strong push” from the Minority senator’s camp in ensuring the approval of his petition for bail.
With the judges’ inhibition, the Estrada hearing will start again from square one.
Estrada is accused of pocketing P183 million worth of kickbacks under the Janet Lim-Napoles pork barrel diversion scam. (JP/Politiko)
