President Rodrigo Duterte wants lawyer Jude Sabio to “tell the truth” after the latter said he was willing to testify against former senator Antonio Trillanes IV in the sedition case filed against opposition figures.

“You know, frankly, I have not met nor talk to the guy. What prompted him for a change of heart, I really do not know. I will be speculating. So, unless magkausap kami matanong ko, ‘Bakit? Ano ba talaga ang totoo adre?’ And he says that he wants to testify, sabihin ko lang, ‘Yeah, you just tell the truth’,” Duterte said in a media interview in Malacañang Wednesday.

“If the truth favors Trillanes and all, fine. Kung it favors… May nag-file eh, pero hindi ako. I never filed because those are the — what you would call the vagaries of politics,” he added.

Duterte also expressed openness to talk to Sabio, who earlier filed a communication with the International Criminal Court against the President and the government’s war on drugs, should he seek an audience with him.

“I can talk to anybody. Eh sabihin ko nga I can talk to the rebels. Ang nasaktan lang ako dito because despite of our kind treatment, sila rin ang nag-i-invoke ng prisoners of war eh, itong mga komunista. Tapos i-blade mo ang pulis ko? Kaya ako galit,” according to him.

Sabio had also served as legal counsel for Edgar Matobato who testified before the Senate and claimed that he was behind the extrajudicial killings in Davao City on the orders of Duterte.
