Just waiting for timing: Koko knew about Chavez’s plan to resign

Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III knew that Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Cesar Chavez will resign from his post even before the announcement was made on Thursday (November 23).

According to Politiko’s source, Chavez informed Pimentel, his backer, of his plan to leave the DOTr before writing a resignation letter to Duterte.

Chavez, a former station manager of dzRH radio, had wanted to resign as early as November 1 as the problems of the Metro Rail Transit 3 kept piling up.

In his letter to Duterte, Chavez said he is stepping down from his post to give an “opportunity for the appointment of person better qualified to perform the duties and responsibilities of the subject office.” He said his resignation was effective immediately.

The DOTr has taken over the maintenance of the MRT-3 since terminating the contract with Busan Universal Rail, Inc. (BURI) on November 6.
