JV to use ‘Ejercito’ in re-election bid: ‘I don’t have the benefit of name recall’
He may be the son of a former president and incumbent Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada, considered an influential political figure in the country.
But for Sen. JV Ejercito it on Thursday said it’s not enough as an assurance for his re-election in the coming 2019 mid-term poll exercise.
“We (re-electionist senators) have to work double time. Iba na ngayon ang behaviour (ng voters). We cannot be sure na re-electionst ka, you have a good chance of winning especially me,” he told reporters in a news forum.
“Ang predicament ko, I will be using Ejercito this time. So kumbaga, I don’t have the benefit of name recall this time around. I have four years to build on that Ejercito name. But I’m hoping na yung performance na lang and with the help of my group, ‘the force’ (that) we’ll be able to still make it,” he said.
“The force” Ejercito was referring to comprise of Senators Cynthia Villar, Grace Poe, Nancy Binay and Sonny Angara who have supposedly decided to band together in campaigning for their re-election bid, with or without the backing of the ruling PDP-Laban.
Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Panfilo Lacson, he said, “offered” to act as their campaign manager.
