Kabataan rep calls on Duterte to stop persecuting opposition members
Kapataan party-list Representative Sarah Elago on Tuesday (Nov. 12) asked the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte to stop persecuting the opposition.
Elaga made the call as she and several others are facing a criminal complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) concerning the recruitment of youths for leftist groups.
“Ang panawagan ng kabataan ay itigil na ang political persecution sa lahat ng mga naninindigan para sa kanilang mga nasa saloobin, mga panawagan at aspirasyon,” she told reports.
“Part and parcel ng responsibility namin ay maging credible fiscalizer ng administration,” she stressed.
Elago was at the DOJ on Tuesday to file a rejoinder as part of her defense over a complaint filed by the Relisa Lucena and the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
In its complaint, the PNP-CIDG said the respondents allegedly committed kidnapping and violated the the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003; Special Protection of Children in Situations of Armed Conflict; Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act; and the the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide, and Other Crimes Against Humanity.
Lucena said her minor daughter Alicia, a student of Far Eastern University, has left home to join Anakbayan without the consent of her parents.
