Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente announced on Wednesday (Nov. 18) that all immigration officers and personnel posted at international airports nationwide are banned from taking leaves this Christmas season.

“We have to make sure that our immigration booths at the airports are adequately manned in anticipation of an increase in the number of international travelers who will enter and exit the country during that period,” he said in a statement.

Morente said BI officers and personnel posted at international airports are not allowed to go on leave from Dec. 1 up to Jan 15

On the other hand, the BI chief only expect a slight to moderate increase in the number of arriving passengers during the period.

He pointed out that many countries worldwide, including the Philippines, have not yet lifted the travel restrictions that were imposed after the pandemic started last March.

“Thus, we are confident that the number of immigration officers currently deployed at the ports are enough to facilitate the efficient conduct of immigration formalities for arriving and departing passengers,” Morente said.
