Kahit tutok sa dengvaxia: Acosta claims PAO’s case disposition rate at 83% for 2019
Despite hurdles, Public Attorney Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta said the agency still managed secure more favorable dispositions of cases in 2019.
“lt was able to serve thirteen million five hundred forty-four thousand two hundred and seventy-two clients with 82.77% favorable disposition rate for its cases,” read the PAO’s 2019 report that Acosta signed.
The PAO said the percentage is higher than its target of 76.5 percent and more than 81.34 percent success rate in the disposition of cases in 2018.
“This translates to a greater percentage of PAO clients being acquitted of the charges filed against them, or at the very least securing probation, reduced penalties, or other favorable dispositions,” said PAO.
PAO figures show that in 2019 there were 295,951 cases with favorable dispositions from the 347,937 terminated criminal cases including 22,471 acquittals.
“Despite its limited resources and manpower, the criticisms from detractors, and malicious imputations from oppositors, the PAO rose above the challenges and fulfilled its mandate to provide its clients the adequate legal services they desperately need and equally deserve,” the PAO stressed.
