Despite the continuing eruption of Taal Volcano, the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday assured the public that fruits and vegetables are safe to eat.
Undersecretary Enrique Domingo, however, advised people to carefully wash all fruits and vegetables before eating.
“Yung gulay, wala pong problema yun basta hugasan lang yun. Yung gulay at prutas na nalagyan ng abo basta hugasan lang ng mahusay yun at linisin, pwedeng kainin yun,” said Domingo in a media briefing in Malacañang.
Meanwhile, the DOH official advised against buying and eating fish from areas affected by the volcanic activity.
“Pag hindi tayo sigurado might as well be cautious because toxic substances have been thrown out of the volcano and na-dissolve iyan sa tubig natin. Kung enough siya para pumatay ng isda at pumtaya ng hayop, then ‘pag na-ingest natin ito, maaring lumipat sa katawan ng tao yung toxin,” he said.
