Kailangan ng backup! DOJ taps police, military to augment BuCor security
The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has been tapped to augment the security of the facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) as the deadly 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) has begun spreading in the prison community.
Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said on Thursday (April 23) that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has begun coordinating with the PNP and AFP.
“They are on standby in case BuCor security personnel need augmentation,” he disclosed.
“As you know, one member of the BuCor personnel at the CIW (Correctional Institute for Women) has also tested positive,” he noted.
The BuCor confirmed its first case of COVID-19 at the New Bilibid Prison is an inmate of the medium security compound.
Earlier, it reported that 19 female inmates and one personnel of the CIW have been tested positive of COVID-19.
One of the female inmates remain confined in a government hospital, while the 18 other inmates have been transferred to an COVID-19 isolation facility at the Bilibid.
