Kailangan pa ba ng batas? Win Gatchalian: Teachers more capable of judging need for homework
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is cool to proposals in the House of Representatives to legalize a ban on homework for elementary and high school students.
In a statement Wednesday (August 28), Gatchalian said teachers should have the discretion on whether or not to assign homework to students.
“I believe that our teachers are more than capable to discern what and how much homework to assign to their students to encourage good study habits and foster intellectual development,” he said.
Sorsogon Rep. Evelina Escudero and Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas separately filed bills legalizing a no-homework policy.
Gatchalian said it is better for lawmakers to ensure the K-12 curriculum is up-to-date even as he vowed to scrutinize bills on banning homework.
