Amid the pandemic, Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) chairman and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno reminded Filipinos to continue to remember the victims who died because of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs.
“Even as we all struggle with the COVID crisis, let’s not forget the victims of the war on drugs, especially the children left behind,” read his social media posts on Thursday (May 28).
“They need our help now more than ever,” he stressed.
The Human Rights Watch has cited that since 2016 thousands of Filipinos have been killed in Duterte’s war against illegal drugs.
However, the group lamented many of these victims leave behind families with children.
The Human Rights Watch said only civil society went out o care for them in the the absence of adequate family support for these families.
