Kapamilya promise: Trillanes vows ABS-CBN franchise renewal if opposition wins in 2022
ABS-CBN media giant may resume regular broadcast operations if the opposition bloc scores a victory in the 2022 elections.
This is the promise made by former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV after the administration-dominated House of Representatives rejected the franchise renewal of the Lopez-owned network.
“Mark my words, ABSCBN’s franchise would be granted once the opposition wins in 2022,” the former lawmaker tweeted on August 29.
Trillanes made the statement after the ABS-CBN network pushed through with the mass layoff of workers due to scaled down operations. The ABS-CBN regional group, that includes many media workers across the country, is among those shut down by the network.
It is unclear if Trillanes will try his luck again in public office in 2022. The political opposition is currently led by Vice President Leni Robredo.
