Kapamilya stars, employees urge House to approve ABS-CBN’s franchise: Mawawalan kami ng trabaho!
Showbiz personalities working at ABS-CBN have banded together with its employees to press the House of Representatives to approve the network’s franchise, which will expire in March 2020.
In an open letter dated June 14, Task Force ChaCha Film/TV said they will lose their jobs if ABS-CBN’s franchise is not renewed since the network can no longer air its shows.
“This will have implications on our very source of livelihood and will definitely affect our families, especially those who are still providing for their children’s education up to college,” the letter read.
House Bill 4349 filed by Nueva Ecija Rep. Micaela Violago, which seeks to renew ABS-CBN’s franchise for another 25 years, remained pending before the House committee on legislative franchises until the 17th Congress ended this month.
The bill needs to be refiled in the 18th Congress so it can be taken up by the House panel.
President Rodrigo Duterte has made no secret about his disdain for ABS-CBN, slamming it for failing to air a commercial he placed during the campaign season. He also accused the network of bias.
Task Force ChaCha Film/TV appealed t the House to “consider the greater good while upholding the right of media/art organizations to decide the path it should take as part of its cnstitutional right to freedom of speech, of expression and of the press.”
Among the celebrities who signed the open letter were Lea Salonga, Angel Aquino, Piolo Pascual, Jed Madela, Ryza Cenon and Jaime Fabregas.
