Katipunan schools unite! Students from Ateneo, UP, Miriam protest Sereno’s ouster

Around 1,500 students from the Ateneo De Manila University, University of the Philippines and Miriam College filled a portion of Katipunan Avenue Friday (May 11) to protest the Supreme Court’s ouster of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Photos tweeted by The Guidon, ADMU’s official student paper, showed students carrying posters professing support for Sereno and condemning the Supreme Court’s decision to grant the quo warranto petition against her.

“We stand with CJ” and “Defend Democracy,” some of the posters read.

Joining the students and teachers in the rally were Senators Kiko Pangilinan and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino, both from the Liberal Party.

In an 8-6 vote, the Supreme Court granted the quo warranto petition filed against Sereno and declared her appointment as Chief Justice in 2012 to be invalid.
