Kawawa ang tao! Robredo urges DOTr to lift suspension on Iloilo-Guimaras motorboat trips
Vice President Leni Robredo has urged the Department of Transportation to lift the suspension on motorboat trips between Iloilo province and Guimaras Island following the August 3 sea mishap that killed 31 people.
Robredo made the appeal after talking to survivors and relatives of those who died in the tragedy Monday (August 12) in Iloilo and Guimaras.
Kasi apparently noong nangyari iyong aksidente, hininto, pero sabi nila, between the time na hininto noong August 3 hanggang ngayon na August 12, wala namang nangyaring inspeksyon, walang anything. Mayroong nagbibiyaheng fast-craft, pero sobrang mahal,” she said.
Robredo said there was already an “air of desperation” among victims as they are unable to travel for work due to the suspension of motorboat trips.
Robredo said she saw the long lines of passengers waiting for the fastcraft at the Jordan port in Guimaras.
She urged the government not to be hasty in making decisions without taking people’s welfare into consideration.
The Vice President said she will submit her recommendation for the DOTr to lift the suspension on motorboat trips Tuesday (August 13).
