Kaya inuupuan! Lacson: House waiting for Duterte’s go signal to hear ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal
Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano can deny all he wants, but Senator Panfilo Lacson believes President Rodrigo Duterte is behind the House of Representatives’ slow action on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bid.
In a press briefing Thursday (February 27), Lacson said it was “obvious” that the House is dragging its feet on ABS-CBN’s franchise application because it still doesn’t have Duterte’s go signal to schedule a hearing.
“No-brainer naman yan dahil ang oft-repeated pronouncements against ABS-CBN, telling masyado yan. Ang House of Representatives naman ayaw kumilos unless biglang sabihin na sige, i-hear nyo na yan ipasa nyo na yan, unless sabihing ganoon,” he said.
“That’s reality. They can deny, they can disown, they can disclaim. Pero kita naman natin,” Lacson added.
The senator said it was “unfair” for ABS-CBN to be having a hard time in renewing its franchise considering it filed its franchise renewal application promptly.
“It’s really unfair to them. Hindi nila kasalanan kasi hindi sila late mag-file ng application na translate into bills,” he said.
President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly threatened to block the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, which will expire on May 4.
On Wednesday (February 26), however, Duterte said he doesn’t have a hand in how fast the House is processing ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal.
Lacson said he will vote for the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise once the bill on it reaches the Senate.
