Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said the poor performance of the majority of Otso Diretso senatorial bets in pre-election surveys was due to allegedly being liars.
In a statement released on Thursday, Mayor Duterte stressed that majority of the voters already knew that candidates of the opposition are “not truthful” as shown by the “dismal performance in the race.”
According to the presidential daughter Osto Diretso bets are frustrated enough to “use inaccurate, misleading statements and even direct lies” when they criticize not only President Rodrigo Duterte but also several candidates being supported by her political entity, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).
Mayor Duterte said opposition candidates were aware of “stretching the truth and yet they deny that they are lying.”
The Davao City mayor earlier insisted that members Otso Diretso slate have no moral grounds to bring up the issue of honesty against candidates being supported by HNP.
She earlier said honesty should not be an issue in the May 13 midterm polls since everybody lies. She made the remark amid the questionable college degrees of Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos and the accusations made by Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano about the alleged misuse of government funds by administration candidate Bong Go for his campaign t-shirts.
Only two of the eight Otso Diretso candidates have entered the Top 12 based on the latest non-commissioned survey conducted of the Social Weather Station (SWS) for the upcoming May 13 polls. They are Liberal Party members, former Interior Sec. Mar Roxas (ninth place) and reelectionist Sen. Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ Aquino IV (10th place).
Former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada currently ranked 25th, followed by Magdalo Partylist Rep. Gary Alejano (26th place); human rights lawyer Chel Diokno (28th place); election lawyer Romulo Macalintal (29th); former Bangsamoro Transition Committee (BTC) member Samira Gutoc (31st place); and former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay (32nd place).
