Kiko Pangilinan bleeds green but roots for UP Maroons

Former Senator Kiko Pangilinan is temporarily setting aside his Green Archers’ loyalty to cheer for the UP Fighting Maroons in this year’s UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball tournament.

“GO MAROONS!!!!” Pangilinan wrote on Instagram after the Fighting Maroons recently beat De La Salle University with 71-66 score. It was the Maroons’ first win over the Green Archers in the last six years.

Pangilinan, who completed his basic education in La Salle Greenhills before studying law in UP, explained that he was cheering for UP’s collegiate basketball team since it has never won the UAAP championship since 1986.

“Dito sa panalo ng UP sa La Salle, UP muna ako. Bakit? Aba ilang beses na nag UAAP champion ang La Salle, hindi na nga mabilang kung ilan pero ang UP, 1986 pa nung huling nag champion,” he said.

“Totoy pa ako nun at nitong last few years walang ka pana-panalo ang UP sa UAAP kaya ang sa akin ay pagbigyan na natin ang UP. Ika nag eh, give a chance to others,” he added.
