Kiko Pangilinan sees Bonifacio in workers, SEA Games athletes

Ka Andres Bonifacio’s strong sense of responsibility and optimistic attitude are traits that many Filipino workers and athletes live by.

Senator Kiko Pangilinan stressed this on Friday as the country kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 30, the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on the 156th birthday of Bonifacio.

“We are reminded of the toil and sacrifice of the thousands of workers and athletes of working-class roots who make the country’s hosting and participation possible,” he said.

“The Great Plebeian is hero of the regular Filipino working person,” Pangilinan said.

He said that like many Filipino workers, Bonifacio had to work at an early age. “It fell on him to raise his siblings after they were orphaned when he was 14.”

One construction worker had an accident and is recuperating in the hospital, Pangilinan said referring to Richard Delos Santos, who was dismantling scaffolding at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila on Monday when he lost his balance and fell.

The stadium is one of the venues of the 2019 SEA Games that sports authorities are scrambling to complete, police said Tuesday.

Delos Santos sustained leg injuries and was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila, said Col. Carlo Manuel, public information officer of the Manila police.

“We hope that assistance will be extended to him for the duration of his recovery,” Pangilinan said.
