Vice President Leni Robredo has expressed shock and dismay at Solicitor General Jose Calida for taking the side of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in the manual recount of votes by backing the use of the 50-percent ballot shading threshold.
Robredo on Tuesday (July 10) said Calida should have supported the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on using the 25-percent ballot shading threshold since he is the government’s abogado.
“Kahit hindi ako nagugulat na kakampihan niya si Marcos, parang hindi ako makapaniwala na iyong abogado sasalungat sa gustong sabihin ni kliyente niya,” she said in a press briefing.
On July 4, Calida filed a manifestation with the Supreme Court, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, supporting the 50-percent ballot shading threshold for the recount of votes in the vice presidential race.
Calida’s view favors Marcos, who opposes Robredo’s appeal for the PET to use the 25-percent threshold set by the Comelec in the 2016 polls.
Robredo brushed off Calida’s claim that his client is the Filipino people and not just the Comelec.
“Tingin ko naghahanap na lang siya ng palusot… Nakakadismaya lang na iyong abogado para sa ating bansa, ang pinaninilbihan hindi iyong taumbayan pero iyong kanyang tunay na boss,” she said.
