Kim Atienza schools DENR official: Garbage in Manila Bay not ‘thrown’ there

A Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) official got schooled by a former Manila councilor.

Kim Atienza, television host, has lectured DENR spokesman Benny Antiporda on how garbage has piled up in Manila Bay.

“The garbage in Manila bay is not ‘thrown’ there. It is garbage from all over MM via the esteros and Pasig River and is seasonal,” Atienza tweeted.

“During the Habagat, the Manila side is clean because the wind blows the trash towards Cavite. During Amihan, it is blown back,” he said.

Antiporda earlier defended the government’s makeover of the Manila Bay, that included pouring crushed dolomite boulders along its shore. He explained the “white sand” would help deter people from throwing garbage into the area.
