KO si Evasco! Piñol prevails in power struggle as DA wins NFA back

Cabinet Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco has been booted out of the National Food Authority (NFA) Council after NFA and two other agencies were reverted back to the Department of Agriculture’s control.

According to Politiko’s source, the decision to revert the NFA, Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) was reached during President Rodrigo Duterte’s meeting with several Cabinet Secretaries and ranking government officials Monday night (April 16).

The NFA Council was subsequently REORGANIZED during the meeting.

Evasco and Aquino have been at odds over rice importation.

The Cabinet Secretary even accused Aquino of trying to make money by pushing for a government-to-government rice importation.

Duterte, however, appeared to have favored Aquino when he recently told NFA to proceed with rice importation and ignore the NFA Council’s order against it.

Prior to Evasco’s removal from the NFA Council, his proxy, Undersecretary Halmen Valdez was also fired last year.
