Koko on calls for PAO chief Acosta to resign: Why blame a lawyer?

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III rejected calls for the resignation of Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) chief Persida Acosta who is being blamed for the rise in the number of measles cases in the country.
“Why (should) she resign? How can a lawyer be responsible for the vaccine mess? That is a health issue of which our doctors (should) know best,” Pimentel told POLITIKO.
On February 8, Senator Risa Hontiveros called for Acosta’s resignation, saying that her “lies and hysterics” over Dengvaxia anti-dengue vaccine mess sowed fear about vaccines among parents.
“But there was really a controversy (with) Dengvaxia. So why blame a lawyer? Basta ako, I cannot blame Atty. Acosta for the present vaccine mess,” said Pimentel.
Acosta earlier said it was unfair for the Department of Health (DOH) to blame PAO for the measles outbreak in some parts of the country.
“Paano naman kami ang magiging may kasalanan sa measles problem natin ngayon, mandato ng DOH na mangampanya ng mga subok na bakuna. Ang PAO, ‘di po kontra sa mga subok na bakuna. Wala po tayong ibang bakuna na pinag-uusapan kundi Dengvaxia lang,” she explained.
