Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) forensics chief Dr. Erwin Erfe has accused Representatives Janette Garin and Edcel Lagman of trying to shut down the PAO forensic laboratory.
Erfe claimed in his latest Facebook Tuesday (Dec. 10) “now Rep. Janet Garin and Edcel Lagman are moving heaven and earth to ensure that the PAO cannot use its budget for the operations of the PAO Forensic Laboratory.”
“In simple terms, PAO cannot use its annual budget to buy diesel fuel for its van to carry its PAO Forensic Team to the site of forensic examination or buy gauze, alcohol and cotton balls for treating victims of child abuse, or use electricity for its equipment in examining torture victims, he lamented in his post.
Earlier, Erfe expressed dismay that during the budget hearing at the Senate Senators Franklin Drilon and Sonny Angara decided to divert the P19.5 million meant for the PAO forensics lab to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
The House of Representatives and the Senate is set to hold a bicameral on Wednesday (Dec. 11) conference to determine finalize the 2020 budget.
“Let’s watch closely Sen. Sonny Angara, Sen. Drilon, Rep. Janet Garin and Rep. Lagman. Sila ang nagsusulong upang ma-aboish and PAO forensic lab,” Erfe said.
