Korina Sanchez on ABS-CBN retrenchment bloodbath: We are called one by one to be told that we are discontinued

ABS-CBN Corporation is scaling down its operations after it was unable to secure a fresh franchise from Congress.

The network intends to cease the operations of some of its businesses and lay off workers by the end of August.

Kapamilya veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez shared on Instagram about the heartbreaking retrenchment at the network, describing it as a “bloodbath.”

“You’re hearing it correctly, so far, I guess. It is a bloodbath. This family is slowly but surely being torn apart,” the host of Rated K program on the network said.

ABS-CBN workers have been called “one by one” to be informed about discontinuing their service, according to Korina.

“We are called one by one, personally, to be told that we are ‘discontinued.’ Not news to me,” she said.

Korina tried to be prepared but found difficulty dealing with such “death.”

“I tried to be prepared. But how can you prepare for comatose, or death, really?” she said.

She said other workers were taking the latest blow “much harder.”

“They have much less options and means. We help those we simply can’t deny, but few can’t save all,” she said

“Apart from the infliction on the gut, it is the heart where it tugs hardest, this episode. We have yet to see how it settles. This is, and will continue to be, painful,” she said.

Korina also reminisced the good old times at the network as she posted on Instagram a Kapamilya family photo during last Christmas celebration.

“Who knew two years ago that this Christmas Station ID would be the last time, for now, that some of us originals would stand together for a joyful pose? This is one to cherish for a lifetime,” she said, naming the personalties in the group photo.

“L-R: Ted, Zsazsa, Karylle, Christine, Manong Eddie, Coco, Tita Susan, Noli, Sen. Lito, Maja, Regine, Vice, Sarah, Toni, Martin, Marya, Angel, Charo, Bea, Korina, Gerald. KNEELING: Vhong, Dawn, Jericho, Carmi, Piolo, Ogie. You all know us by our first names, right? That’s how long two generations of us is. Ganon katagal tayo nagsama 💔💚💙…”she said.
