Kumikita sa printing! Locsin reveals DOH’s money making scheme in COVID-19 tests

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin has revealed a money making scheme involving the release of COVID-19 test results from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

In a tweet posted Monday (May 25), Locsin said the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) does not release COVID-19 test results processed by the PRC unless they’re printed. BOQ is under the Department of Health.

“They inundate Red Cross with testing (@P3,500) but results held up at BOQ. Still RC reduced backlog to 8 but when results sent to DOH they’re not announced: each result must be printed on paper—kaching! Red Cross not paid; running out of money to do more of the work of govt. Shet,” Locsin said.

Around 24,000 overseas Filipino workers are stuck at quarantine centers in Metro Manila because their COVID-19 test results have not been released.

On Monday, Malacañang announced President Rodrigo Duterte’s order for the OFWs to be sent to their home provinces within a week.

DOH, the Department of Labor and Employment and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will be in charge of bringing the OFWs back to their hometowns.
