Kumita sa Kapamilya! Gadon reveals 9 senators who are ‘biased’ for ABS-CBN
Abogado Larry Gadon has asked nine senators to inhibit from voting on ABS-CBN’s franchise application because their connections to the network allegedly make them biased in its favor.
In a letter sent to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III Saturday (May 16), Gadon said the senators with alleged bias for ABS-CBN should not even be allowed to take part in the deliberations for the bill.
“Ang mga Senador na ito ay may alegasyon na hayagang alam ng publiko na nakikinabang pati asawa o kapamilya sa ABS CBN bilang stockholder , talent , producer o iba pang interes, sa ABS CBN Channel 2 , TV Plus , Skycable , Radio at iba pang media na pag aari ng ABS CBN,” he said.
The senators whom Gadon claimed to have connections to ABS-CBN are: Sotto, who supposedly received fees and royalties when the noontime show he appears in, “Eat Bulaga,” was shown on the network.
Gadon said two of Sotto’s relatives are also connected to the network: his brother Vic has movies shown on the network, while niece Sharon Cuneta is a stockholder and Kapamilya talent.
The abogado said Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan should also inhibit himself because Cuneta is his wife. He said Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto must also recuse himself from deliberations because his wife, Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos, is identified with ABS-CBN.
Gadon also wants Senator Manny Pacquiao to inhibit as several of his boxing matches were shown on the network, and he therefore earned royalties from them. He supposedly also had a show on ABS-CBN.
The abogado said Senator Lito Lapid should likewise inhibit himself from deliberations and voting since he appeared on the hit ABS-CBN television series, “Ang Probinsyano.”
Another senator whom Gadon wants to inhibit is Senator Grace Poe, whose family owns the rights to the movies of her late father, Fernando Poe Jr. The elder Poe’s films are shown on ABS-CBN and some, like “Ang Probinsyano,” have been adapted for television.
Gadon said Senator Sonny Angara should also inhibit himself since his wife, Tootsy, is an executive of the network. He added that Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. should do the same because some of his movies are shown on ABS-CBN.
Senator Pia Cayetano should also recuse herself from voting, Gadon said, since the Cayetano, Sebastian, Ata Dado & Cruz Law Office founded by her father is allegedly on retainer by ABS-CBN.
“Allan Peter and Pia are also either partners or associates , Sebastian is husband of Pia Cayetano . The late former Senator Rene Cayetano had a long running television and radio show COMPANERO in ABS CBN,” Gadon said. Allan Peter is Pia’s brother and the House Speaker.
Gadon said other senators who signed the Senate resolution asking the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to reconsider ABS-CBN’s shutdown should also inhibit from deliberations and voting on the network’s franchise application.
“[M]eron na sila agad pagkiling o pre-judgement pabor sa ABS CBN sa kabila ng pag expire ng prangkisa nito at sa mga alegasyon ng mga violations nito na may sapat na katibayan na sa kasalukuyang nasa petition sa Supreme Court at nasa mga reklamo at resolution ng pag iimbistiga sa House of Representatives,” Gadon said.
The Senate committee on public services is set to hear ABS-CBN’s franchise application on Tuesday, May 19, with Senator Sherwin Gatchalian leading the discussion.
