Kumontra pa! Sotto dismayed with Hontiveros for voting against Bayanihan bill
Senate President Vicente Sotto III is disappointed that a senator has voted against the measures that will give President Duterte special powers to combat the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Senate Bill No. 1418, titled “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act,” was supported by 20 senators during a special session convened last Monday. Only Senator Risa Hontiveros voted against the bill through phone call.
Sotto said the measure will also provide emergency subsidies for low-income families affected by the enhanced community quarantine.
“Nakakalungkot isipin na kahit kailangan tulungan ang hirap na 18M Filipinos at mga Frontline health workers, meron Pa rin nakuhang bumoto ng contra!” Sotto tweeted.
“Technically, 19 voted in favor, no abstention and I against. 12 voted on the floor,” he said.
The Senate bill seeks to allow Duterte to realign funds in the national budget, direct the operations of private hospitals, hotels and other similar establishments to serve as quarantine areas, quarantine centers, and related services. If passed into law, Duterte will also be empowered to direct the operation of public transportation systems to carry health and other frontline workers.
